God's goal for you isn't great faith — it's consistent faith, a faith that keeps saying yes to Him no matter what He asks.

Through Abraham's story, Pastor Brent shows that faith isn't mainly about believing for miracles — it's about obedience, even when it's inconvenient or doesn't make sense. Abraham's faith was inconsistent, yet God remained consistently faithful, providing a way even in the hardest test, and He will do the same for us.

God tests faith to test obedience

Speaking in character as Abraham, Pastor Brent walks through Genesis 22 where God asks Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, the promised son. He explains that God wasn't questioning whether Abraham had faith — He already knew — He was testing whether Abraham would obey, because faith is less about believing for signs and more about doing what God asks.

Inconsistent faith has real consequences

Pastor Brent, as Abraham, recounts sleeping with Hagar and fathering Ishmael because he and Sarah tried to make God's promise happen on their own timeline instead of resting in it. He names the cost plainly: a broken family and generations of hostility between Ishmael's and Isaac's descendants.

God is consistently faithful even when we are not

He retells the earlier call out of Haran, the trip to Egypt, and Abraham's lie to Pharaoh about Sarah out of fear. Even though Abraham's faith failed there, God protected him and got him out with his life and possessions intact, proving His faithfulness didn't depend on Abraham's consistency.

Worship in the middle of the test

On the journey up the mountain with Isaac, Abraham chooses to worship instead of complain, reasoning that a God who has been faithful in the past will be faithful in the present. Isaac's question about the missing lamb becomes the moment Abraham declares, 'God will provide.'

God provides — Jehovah Jireh

At the altar, the angel stops Abraham, and a ram is provided in Isaac's place. Abraham names the place Jehovah Jireh, and Pastor Brent draws out that the test wasn't just proving Abraham's obedience — it was revealing God's provision, and the same God provides for us.

The test is really a retest, and grace covers the failures

Pastor Brent notes that God gave Abraham chance after chance despite his repeated failures, and He does the same for us — giving grace and inviting us back into obedience rather than writing us off.

Take it into your week

Pastor Brent's charge is to trade chasing great faith for practicing consistent faith — a steady yes to God no matter the ask.

Application

Give God a consistent yes
Whatever God asks — where to go, what to give, who to serve, what job to leave — answer consistently with yes instead of picking and choosing when to obey.
Worship in the middle of the test
Instead of complaining or giving up during a hard season, choose gratitude and worship on the way up the mountain, trusting God's past faithfulness for your present situation.
Stop trying to make God's promise happen yourself
Rest in what God has said instead of manipulating or forcing circumstances the way Abraham did with Hagar, and let God work on His timeline.
Stand and receive prayer if you're in a test
Those wrestling with anxiety, stress, or worry were invited to stand so the church could pray over them for God's peace and provision as Jehovah Jireh.
