Your past — the hurts done to you, the pain you've endured, the sins you've committed — does not have to define who you are. In Christ you can release resentment, let God repurpose your pain, and remember the cross instead of drowning in guilt, so your identity is found in Him, not in what happened to you.

Our hearts are deceitful and will always show us a path that seems right but ends in death. True identity was never meant to be discovered by following our feelings and longings — it is recovered only in Jesus, who is the way, the truth, and the life. As we take delight in Him, our disordered desires shrink and we find the life we were actually made for.

Pastor Daniel Goulding · May 10, 2022
Every one of us is on a search to answer the question "who am I?" but we settle for low-hanging fruit — nicknames, mistakes, personality tests — that only describe us instead of the identity God gives. Like Jacob, we can spend years deceiving and striving to become who we already were made to be, until God meets us in our brokenness, wrestles our false identity to the ground, and gives us the true name He always intended.

Pastor Jeff Moors · May 1, 2022
Our worth was never meant to rest in titles, roles, or the flesh — it's found in who God says we are in Christ. When we let that truth take root, we stop living from our past and start living as new creations with the power, perspective, and purpose to change the world around us.

Pastor Bill Bush · Apr 24, 2022
Our identity isn't a mystery to be solved but a gift already given: God made us in His image to reflect Him mentally, morally, and relationally. Sin — whether in obviously bad things or in good things like career, marriage, or parenting — happens whenever we make something other than being God's mirror our definition of self. True freedom comes from stopping the search for who we are and simply recovering whose we are in Christ.

Romans 8 promises us real victory in Christ, not a life without pain but a life where God is always at work even in the pain. When we remember His promises, respond to His purpose, and refuse to surrender, we stop living as victims of our circumstances and start living as victors who already know how the story ends.

There's real hope for anyone who feels torn between who they want to be and who they keep failing to be. Romans 7 shows that this inner battle is normal for every believer, and it isn't meant to be won by willpower—it's won by leaning on Jesus, who alone can rescue us and finish the work He started in us.
