God's discipline, even when it looks harsh, flows from His faithful, jealous love for His people. Rather than trying to get God on our side by going through religious motions, we're called to get on His side — surrendering, repenting, and trusting His wisdom over our own desires.

Our hearts are deceitful and will always show us a path that seems right but ends in death. True identity was never meant to be discovered by following our feelings and longings — it is recovered only in Jesus, who is the way, the truth, and the life. As we take delight in Him, our disordered desires shrink and we find the life we were actually made for.

Our identity isn't a mystery to be solved but a gift already given: God made us in His image to reflect Him mentally, morally, and relationally. Sin — whether in obviously bad things or in good things like career, marriage, or parenting — happens whenever we make something other than being God's mirror our definition of self. True freedom comes from stopping the search for who we are and simply recovering whose we are in Christ.
