Grace vs. Works

Going into a new year, we don't need another list of resolutions to earn a better life — we need to rest in the grace already given us in Christ. Because we were spiritually dead, not just weak, no amount of goodness could earn us life, but God made us alive together with Christ and calls us His masterpiece, free to respond to His love rather than strive for His approval.

Christmas happened because none of us can earn our way to God by being good enough, religious enough, or knowledgeable enough — we are all Batman trying to outrace Superman, and we can never win. God's grace, shown through Abraham's example, comes to those who simply believe God, not just believe in Him, and that faith alone is what makes us right with Him.

The good news is not that we get into heaven by cleaning up our act — it's that God loved us because of who He is, not because of who we are, and nothing we do can change that. Because of this, the gospel isn't just the entry ticket into the kingdom; it's meant to shape how we live in every relationship, marriage, and friendship we have.
