Praise in Pain

Happiness isn't the enemy, and circumstantial happiness is a real gift to celebrate — but it makes a terrible goal, because God's primary aim for us is holiness, not happiness. When we put our hope in God as the source of life rather than the resources He gives, He doesn't just replace our sorrow with happiness — He transforms it into something better than we could have had otherwise.
