God loves us enough to humble us so we'll finally see how deeply He loves us. Like King Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 4, we all chase sub-gods of power, pleasure, and comfort while insisting God is in charge — but real trust only grows through the daily choice to admit we're wrong and surrender our plans to His purpose.

God isn't asking us to bring Him our plans and get His blessing on them; He's inviting us to open our clenched fists and take the next step He gives, even when it's not the step we wanted. Moses learned this the hard way, and so did Pastor Brian — and the God who reveals the timing, provides the strength, and repurposes our weakness goes with us every step of the way.

Christmas happened because none of us can earn our way to God by being good enough, religious enough, or knowledgeable enough — we are all Batman trying to outrace Superman, and we can never win. God's grace, shown through Abraham's example, comes to those who simply believe God, not just believe in Him, and that faith alone is what makes us right with Him.

Even in the toughest seasons, you're never alone, because God already knows everything about you and is already present in every moment, past, present, and future. When we stop trying to figure it all out ourselves and instead dive into who God is, what looks like defeat can become victory, just as the cross looked like the ultimate loss but became the ultimate win.

Christmas and the good news of Jesus really are gifts for us, but the moment we make them about us we miss the point and end up frustrated, treating Jesus like Santa Claus. The joy God intends comes when we accept that He is in control, we are not God, and we get out of the way so He becomes greater in our lives.
Pastor Jonah Werner · Sep 23, 2018
Pastor Jonah shares that every life has a soundtrack, a song in the heart, and Jesus wants to meet us right where that song is one of sorrow, fear, or brokenness. People cannot rescue people; we can only lead each other to the feet of the one great Rescuer. When we dive in and trust Him, even when we're scared, He gives us a new song and leads us to life to the full.
