Key points
1Loving others often looks crazy to the people watching.
Pastor Daniel tells the story of a pest control salesman who showed up at his door, how he felt God nudge him to engage instead of brushing him off, and how he ended up offering to pay for a service he didn't need if the man would just come to church. His wife watched the whole exchange on the Ring doorbell camera, amused that he'd ended up in another one of these conversations.

2The good Samaritan is moved by compassion, and that compassion is meant to lead to action, not just prayer.
Working through Luke 10:33-35, Pastor Daniel notes the Samaritan sees the wounded man and feels compassion before he does anything. He argues that different people are wired to feel that pull toward different needs, and that when we feel it we're called to actually invest — not just say 'I'll pray for you' as a way to exit the conversation.
3Loving others will be inconvenient — it interrupts an ordinary day.
He turns to Luke 5:12-14, where Jesus, in the middle of an unremarkable day before His public ministry has even launched, is approached by a man with leprosy and simply touches and heals him, even though touching him would make Jesus ceremonially unclean. Pastor Daniel connects this to how busy and distracted modern life is, and challenges the room to ask God each morning for eyes to see interruptions as divine appointments.
It's not enough to just pray. Sometimes we have to even be willing to pay
We are called to be the light into an otherwise dark world
4Loving others will be disruptive — it breaks into what we're already doing.
In Luke 5:17-20 four men dig through a roof to lower their paralyzed friend in front of Jesus mid-teaching, and rather than finishing His point, Jesus stops to heal and forgive the man. Pastor Daniel ties this to Galatians' teaching that once we belong to Christ our lives, schedules, and plans are no longer our own to protect from disruption.
Your life is no longer yours to do what you want, to go where you want, to be who you want, to decide what you want
5Loving others will be expensive — it will cost us something real.
He points out that Jesus' declaration that the paralyzed man's sins were forgiven cost Him his reputation with the religious leaders in the room, just as the Samaritan paid out of his own pocket for a stranger. Pastor Daniel confesses his own struggle trusting God with money even while trusting Him with eternity, and warns against a comfortable, cultural Christianity that never actually costs anything.
Following Jesus, man, it's the most dangerous thing that you and I will ever do. Don't believe the lie that it will be easy because it won't be
6Loving others will always be rewarding.
He closes the loop on the pest-control story: months later the salesman, Ethan, resurfaces, connects with him after his marriage falls apart, and they spend hours in conversation and coffee, with Pastor Daniel simply listening and walking with him the way someone once walked with Daniel through his own marriage struggles. He frames the reward not as knowing the outcome but as the deep sense of wonder and worship that comes from saying yes.
we might not be able to change the world, but we can definitely change the worlds that we live in
A story from life
Pastor Daniel completes the Ethan story: Ethan visits Rock Point, leaves a connect card, receives a phone call, shares coffee for two hours, and hears the gospel alongside an offer of ongoing support including marriage counseling.
A story from life
Pastor Daniel shares about his daughter's serious brain infection around Christmas, the flooding of his home, and how the Rock Point congregation stepped in to serve his family practically.
A story from life
Pastor Daniel recounts answering his Ring doorbell to a pest-control salesman named Ethan, engaging him in a conversation about faith, and buying the service to invest in a relationship.
Application
Pastor Daniel's charge is that saying yes to love will look inconvenient, disruptive, and expensive — but we say yes anyway.
Notice where your heart is drawn
Pay attention to the needs and people that stir compassion in you specifically, even if others walk past them without a second thought — that pull may be God showing you where to invest.
Say yes to the inconvenient interruption
Ask God each morning to let you see interruptions — a stranger at the door, an unexpected conversation — as divine appointments rather than annoyances to avoid.
Let your plans be disrupted
Recognize that following Jesus means your schedule, calendar, and finances are no longer fully yours to protect; make room for someone who lands on your path even mid-task.
Be willing to pay, not just pray
When compassion moves you, move past saying 'I'll pray for you' and consider what it would look like to actually invest time, money, or energy into the person in front of you.
Build margin for people God puts on your path
Slow down and create space in your week — even something as simple as a phone call or coffee — so you're able to walk with someone through their mess, the way someone once walked with you.
Take it into your week
