Key points
1Missing just one instruction can leave you far from where you were meant to be.
Pastor Bill tells the story of driving to college with a twelve-step list of directions from his dad, skipping one turn, and ending up lost for hours in downtown Los Angeles and South Central instead of arriving at the school where a room was already waiting for him.
2Being a disciple means following God's direction, not earning His love.
Pastor Bill explains that God's directions are not a checklist to earn love, but instructions from a Father who already loves us and already has a place for us; sanctification is the lifelong process of learning to follow those directions to become more like Him.
that's how far away I ended from what I intended to be and where I thought I should be
3Jesus' anger at the temple exposed Israel's missed first direction.
Pastor Bill walks through Jesus entering Jerusalem, clearing the temple, and cursing the fig tree, showing these were acts of judgment against a people who kept the rituals but missed the call to love God and reach the nations.
4Jesus names the greatest commandment as love God and love others — inseparably.
When a religious expert tries to trap Jesus by asking for the most important command, Jesus answers with the Shema and Leviticus, showing the two commands are like the two sides of a coin: real love for God automatically produces love for others.
Love's a choice
5Love is not a feeling or an affirmation of 'you do you' — love gives.
Using John 3:16, Pastor Bill points to the words 'loved' and 'gave' to argue that giving is the proof of love, whether that is giving truth, time, or money; a love that only takes, or that refuses to speak truth, is not love at all.
You can give without loving, but you can't love without giving
“If you think you love God and love others, and your bank account doesn't show that you give to your church, and your calendar doesn't show that you serve in your area of giftedness, you don't love God”
6The size of the Court of the Gentiles in the temple shows God always meant to make room for outsiders.
Pastor Bill shows a diagram of Herod's temple, noting the Court of the Gentiles was by far the largest space, yet the religious leaders had filled it with merchants for their own convenience rather than keeping it open for outsiders to worship — which is what actually provoked Jesus' anger.
7Rock Point's growth is a call to keep making room rather than settling for convenience.
Pastor Bill cites the church's baptisms, new families, and growth since moving buildings, and connects this to the We Are Rock Point campaign to build a children's building, expand the student and special needs spaces, and grow the worship center so more people can be reached.
what if we don't have enough chairs
A story from life
Pastor Bill recounts cashing out his retirement and moving his family to start Rock Point, and the moment of fear before the first Bible study at Power Ranch

Application
Pastor Bill frames it as making room: love God, love others, and let love give.
Check your bank account and calendar
Pastor Bill says these two things reveal what you actually love; if they don't show giving and serving, examine whether you truly love God and others.
Name and face your fear about giving
Write down whatever is holding you back from giving — fear of not having enough, distrust, past hurt, or just not wanting to — and spend the next few weeks talking to God about it before making a financial commitment.
Prayerfully consider a sacrificial gift to the campaign
Decide what you think you can reasonably give toward the We Are Rock Point building campaign, then take one step further and trust God with it over the next two years.
Move to Saturday night or start serving
If Sunday services are full, shift your attendance to Saturday night or step into serving in children's ministry, security, or guest services so the church can keep making room for new people.
Keep coming even if you're not ready to give
Pastor Bill tells those still exploring faith not to worry about giving until they understand God's love for them, but to keep showing up and listening.
